The financial audit of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has been a matter of concern for quite some time now. It has been reported that the audit of the court's accounts has not been done for the past ten years, which is a cause for alarm. The lack of transparency in the financial affairs of the Supreme Court has raised questions about the accountability of the institution and the integrity of its officials.
Recently, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Umar Ata Bandial, refused to give the accounts of the Supreme Court to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of government institutions. This refusal has further raised concerns about the financial management of the Supreme Court and has put a spotlight on the need for greater accountability and transparency.
In response to the Chief Justice's refusal, the Public Accounts Committee has summoned the Registrar of the Supreme Court on May 16 to provide the necessary financial records. The Chairman PAC Mr.Noor Alam Khan has made it clear that if the Registrar fails to appear, they will issue a warrant for his arrest, and any attempts to block this action will not be accepted.

The lack of financial accountability in the Supreme Court is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. As a public institution, the court is accountable to the people of Pakistan, and transparency in its financial affairs is essential to maintaining public trust. The PAC's efforts to compel the Supreme Court to provide its financial records are a step in the right direction towards greater accountability and transparency.
It is also important to note that financial audits are essential for identifying potential irregularities, mismanagement, and fraud. Without regular audits, there is a risk that financial improprieties could go undetected, which could have serious implications for the integrity of the institution and the public's trust in it. Therefore, it is imperative that the Supreme Court complies with the PAC's request for its financial records and that regular audits are conducted in the future to ensure transparency and accountability.
In conclusion, the financial audit of the Supreme Court of Pakistan is a matter of public concern, and the lack of transparency in the institution's financial affairs is a cause for alarm. The PAC's efforts to hold the Supreme Court accountable for its financial records are commendable, and it is imperative that the court complies with the PAC's request for transparency and accountability. Regular audits are essential for maintaining the integrity of the institution and ensuring that it remains accountable to the people of Pakistan.
